This past Saturday marked the first middle-distance race of the season. The birds were released from Soissons, a distance of 313 km for us. It turned out to be a beautiful race, with a headwind from the northeast for most of the journey — just the kind of conditions we prefer.
Our first arrival was NL24-8252916, a daughter of Piet x Peke. She delivered an outstanding performance, winning 1st place in our region against 3,908 pigeons and also taking 1st place in Section 8 South against 8,494 pigeons. The early arrivals followed each other closely, resulting in Combinatie Ebben having the best overall result in Federation again.
NL24-8252916 was our first pigeon. For her pedigree Click here.
Our full result in Section 8 (19,280 pigeons!) with 28 birds entered was:
4 - 17 - 22 - 158 - 269 - 311 - 387 - 393 - 595 - 620 - 869 - 1146 - 1158 - 1275 - 1700, etc.
That translates to:
4 x Top 1% (14%)
15 x Top 10% (53%)
24 x Top 33% (85%)
Our second, third, and fourth arrivals were all two-year-old hens — the key contenders for the 2024 season. Although they had a slow start to the year, we're happy to see them back in form. Among them were the well-known nestmates NL23-9147666 and NL23-9147665, both with an impressive track record. The third was NL23-9147639, who last year scored two top-12 NPO prizes in one-day long-distance races.
Over at W. & F. Ebben, the start was slightly delayed, but the result was still solid. In Federation, against 2,132 pigeons, the results were:
42, 48, 89, 119, 137, 177, 181, 182, 200, 208, etc.
From 25 pigeons entered, 22 won prizes (88%), with 10 prizes in the top 10% (40%) — a performance to be proud of.
In Federation we became 1st and 3rd "Grand Master".
With another northeast wind forecast for the coming weekend, we’re already looking forward to the next race!
