Nederlands onderaan 

Last Saturday, the 2025 season in Section 8 came to a close. For us, this marks the end of an eventful racing year. Time to look back on a season filled with highlights, but also with its fair share of challenges.

A Year of Highs and Lows

The season wasn’t without setbacks. Two difficult liberations cost us several of our best pigeons – a heavy blow for a smaller loft like ours. Still, there were also fantastic performances: in May we flew four consecutive weeks in the provincial top ten, highlighted by a victory from Soissons against 8,511 pigeons. Two weeks later we followed up with 1st and 2nd Semi-Provincial Orléans against 2,759 pigeons.
Although a disappointing race from Laon broke our momentum and the young bird season didn’t live up to expectations, we nevertheless finished the year in style.

Our Key Results

• 2nd Provincial (Afdeling 8/GOU) Middle Distance un-nominated and 3rd nominated

• 1st General Nominated in Federation (appr. 125 members) – for the fourth consecutive year

• 21 first prizes shared between Boven- and Beneden-Leeuwen, including:

  • 1st Soissons (8,511 pigeons)

  • 1st Gien (2,759 pigeons)

  • 1st Etroungt (2,567 pigeons)

  • 1st Etroungt (2,344 pigeons)

  • 1st Reims (1,613 pigeons)

  • 1st Tienen (898 pigeons)

  • 1st Bierges (577 pigeons)

  • 1st Issoudun (556 pigeons)

Season Finale from Laon

The last after-race competition came from Laon (288 km). We entered 21 old and young pigeons, and under summer-like conditions with a southeast wind, it turned into a tough race. Still, at 12:33 a beautiful pair dropped together – good for 1-2 provincial against 6,325 pigeons! In the end, NL25-1140221 “Umoni” was declared the winner on ring number, but both pigeons clocked the exact same speed.

Our Standout Performers in Laon

• NL25-1140221 “Umoni” – 1st Provincial (6,325 pigeons)
  A remarkable pigeon: 75% Ebben and 25% Janssen-Arendonk. She got lost during her very first young bird race and was found in Belgium. After a miraculous return, she crowned her comeback as a provincial winner.

• NL25-1140749 “Una” – 2nd Provincial (6,325 pigeons)
  Falco’s favorite, out of “Piet” x “Paulina.” Already proven earlier with, among others, 2nd Tienen against 3,550 pigeons.

• NL23-9147668 “Suzanne” – 7th Provincial
  Our star of the year, with 7 top-1/100 finishes and crowned middle distance ace pigeon in the club. She also ranks 8th allround ace pigeon of the Netherlands in the PIPA ranking.

• NL23-9147614 “Sander” – 8th Provincial
  Also with 7 top-1/100 finishes and brother of the cocks that won 1st & 2nd Semi-Provincial Gien. Currently ranked 13th allround ace pigeon in the PIPA ranking.

• NL25-1140729 “Unica” – 9th Provincial
  Out of “Pandemic” x “Peke.”

Young Birds from Melun

The final young bird race from Melun also brought solid results: with 8 pigeons entered, we scored 6 prizes, including 6th, 81st, and 144th against 4,304 pigeons. Our first arrival was NL25-1032108 “Unstoppable” from Frans Strikker, already a promising youngster with multiple top results this season.
With an average of 614 points, this result was even the best overall score in Section 8/South against 156 fanciers.

Looking Ahead: Back to 12 Pairs

Since 2020 we have competed together with the old birds as Combination Ebben, and that has already brought us great successes:

• 3x Top 10 Fancier of the Netherlands

• 2x Winner of the Silver Pigeon (Gouden Duif)

• 2x General Champion Section 8 un-nominated

Nevertheless, we have decided to scale back from 16 to 12 pairs at Falco’s loft, in line with uncle Will’s system. The number of young birds will also be reduced. This way, we keep the joy in the sport and adapt better to the possibilities of our loft. With this “magic number,” we hope to revive the golden years of 2020–2024.

The spectacular finale in Laon proves one thing: the quality is still there. Now, on to a new season!

Seizoen 2025: Een Spectaculaire Afsluiting met 1-2-7-8-9 Provinciaal Laon

Afgelopen zaterdag werd het seizoen 2025 voor ons in Afdeling 8 afgesloten. Daarmee is voor ons een bewogen vliegjaar ten einde gekomen. Tijd om terug te blikken op een seizoen vol hoogtepunten, maar ook met de nodige uitdagingen.

Een Jaar met Hoogte- en Dieptepunten

Het seizoen kende zijn moeilijke momenten. Twee lossingen verliepen problematisch, waarbij we helaas enkele van onze betere duiven zijn kwijtgeraakt – een flinke aderlating voor een kleiner hok zoals het onze. Toch waren er ook prachtige prestaties: in mei vlogen we vier weken achter elkaar in de provinciale top tien, met als hoogtepunt een overwinning vanuit Soissons tegen 8.511 duiven. Twee weken later volgde de 1e en 2e Semi-Provinciaal Orléans tegen 2.759 duiven.
Hoewel een mindere vlucht vanuit Laon onze reeks onderbrak en de jonge duiven dit jaar niet brachten wat we hoopten, sloten we het seizoen tóch in stijl af.

Seizoensfinale vanuit Laon

De laatste natourvlucht werd vervlogen vanuit Laon (288 km). We speelden 21 oude en jonge duiven en onder zomerse omstandigheden met zuidoostenwind werd het een lastige wedstrijd. Toch viel om 12:33 uur een prachtig koppel samen – goed voor 1-2 provinciaal tegen 6.325 duiven! Uiteindelijk werd NL25-1140221 “Umoni” op getekende als winnaar aangewezen, maar beide duiven klokten exact dezelfde snelheid.

Onze uitblinkers in Laon

  Een bijzondere duif: 75% Ebben en 25% Janssen-Arendonk. Ze raakte bij haar eerste jonge duivenvlucht verloren en werd in België gevonden. Na een wonderbaarlijke terugkeer ontpopte ze zich tot provinciale winnares.

Jonge Duiven vanuit Melun

De laatste jonge duivenvlucht vanuit Melun leverde ook mooie resultaten op: met 8 ingezette duiven pakten we 6 prijzen, waaronder 6e, 81e en 144e tegen 4.304 duiven. Onze eerste duif was NL25-1032108 “Unstoppable” van Frans Strikker, die dit seizoen al meerdere topprijzen vloog.
Deze uitslag leverde ons met gemiddeld 614 punten zelfs de beste uitslag van Afdeling 8/Zuid op tegen 156 liefhebbers.

Vooruitblik: Terug naar 12 Koppels

Sinds 2020 zijn we als combinatie Ebben in Boven-Leeuwen gestart met de oude duiven, en dat bracht ons al veel successen:

• 3x Top 10 Beste Liefhebber van Nederland

• 2x winnaar van de Zilveren Duif

• 2x Generaal Kampioen Afdeling 8 onaangewezen

Toch kiezen we ervoor om ook op het hok van Falco terug te schakelen van 16 naar 12 koppels, net als oom Will. Ook het aantal jonge duiven gaat omlaag. Zo houden we het plezier erin én sluiten we beter aan bij de mogelijkheden van ons hok. Met dit “magische getal” hopen we de gloriejaren van 2020–2024 nieuw leven in te blazen.

De spectaculaire afsluiting in Laon bewijst in ieder geval dat de kwaliteit er nog volop is. Op naar een nieuw seizoen!
