Jelle Jellema wins 1st Hirson against 1,446 pigeons (5th in Section 9 against 8,635 pigeons)

Although Jelle Jellema is best known as a marathon specialist, he has recently been achieving notable results in other disciplines as well. Last weekend he impressed again with a strong performance in the mid-distance race from Hirson: 5th, 16th, 31st, 79th, and more in Section 9 — against over 8,600 pigeons (1st CC4 vs 1,446 pigeons). His first three pigeons were all Ebbenpigeons: two directly from us, and one via Frans Strikker.

Remarkably, Jellema scored 83 prizes with 102 birds entered — on a race day that turned out difficult for many. This could well be linked to his system: racing on the nest, just as he does with his marathon pigeons.

His first bird, NL24-8141014, is a granddaughter of Linus, Piet, Odina, and Peke.

Last year, Jellema collected around 20 eggs from our loft. He came to us because of our consistent track record on the one-day long distance races — now almost 25 years — and our strong results in one loft races. Fortunately, we didn’t disappoint: that same year, he won 1st and 2nd in the CC on the final young bird race (3rd and 4th Provincial).

This season, his birds from our lines continue to perform exceptionally:

  • From Gien: his second and third pigeons were from us — 19th and 25th against 558 pigeons in CC4
  • From Châteaudun: 3rd, 7th, 11th and 12th against 417 pigeons in the CC — three of these four top pigeons came directly from us; only the second bird was bred by another fancier.

For Jelle, these faster pigeons are a side project — an addition to help strengthen his position in one loft races. But the results speak for themselves. We’re very curious to see what these birds will do in the upcoming nationals!
